We're Making a Brighter Future Together
There is a shortage of high-quality ASL resources for parents.
According to deafed.net, “about 90% of the deaf population has two hearing parents and 88% of those parents do not know sign language.” This is heartbreaking. Deaf kids who don’t share a language with their parents have a harder time forming healthy family relationships. They also have a harder time in school.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
At the Signing Time Foundation, our mission is to share ASL with all families, especially those who need it most: hearing parents of a deaf child. It’s why we’re creating Sign It ASL.
We are making the tools and providing them for free to families of deaf and hard of hearing babies.Sign It ASL is an American Sign Language curriculum that when completed will include 50 lessons taught by ASL experts. Our curriculum is delivered entirely online, so families are able to learn from where they live when their schedules allow and set their own pace. It is free of charge to families living in the U.S.A. who have a child, ages 36-months and under, with any level of hearing loss.
Each bundle includes 5 lessons, and each lesson contains 20-30 chapters of material. Lessons 1-20 are available now, and we are currently working to fund lessons 21-50.
Production cost is $50,000 per lesson; $250,000 for each 5 lesson bundle. To maximize economy of scale we fund, and then produce, 5 lessons of Sign It ASL at a time. The total costs for 50 lessons in 10 bundles is $2,500,000.
